BBC Interview Highlights Need For Youth Housing

Our work to help tackle youth homelessness has been featured by BBC News, highlighting the critical shortage of safe, affordable housing for young people in Cornwall.

YMCA Cornwall’s Head of Operations, Helen Wilson-Prowse was recently interviewed by both Julie Skentlebery and Neil Caddy for BBC Cornwall, where she discussed our campaign to create four new self‑contained flats and the growing demand for housing support across the county. She spoke about the realities young people face when trying to secure safe accommodation, the urgency of expanding provision, and the commitment of our team to improving young lives.

She spoke about the realities facing young people trying to find safe accommodation, the urgency of expanding provision, and the commitment of the YMCA Cornwall team working every day to change young lives for the better.

New flats for young people a ‘drop in the ocean

Both the article and the interview underline how rising rents, limited availability, and increased need for supported accommodation make our new flats a vital source of hope, stability, and a fresh start for young people in Cornwall.

We’re incredibly grateful for the BBC’s continued coverage of our work.

If you’d like to support our mission you can donate here.

If you’re a tradesperson able to help us complete the flats, please get in touch with us at YMCA Cornwall.
