Community Training Hub

YMCA Cornwall is a community base for agencies supporting people from a diverse range of backgrounds, including people living with disabilities, physical mental and emotional health issues, lone parents, homeless/NFA, people with drug/alcohol problems, ex-offenders, on long term health related benefits, lone parents, young people, NEET or ‘hidden jobless’ non benefit recipients.

This includes supporting individuals to overcome the challenges they are facing, including:

  • To find volunteering and work experience placements
  • To provide inspirational and fun programmes to build communication, team work and motivational skills
  • To improve job search skills, CV and application forms, interview skills, work experience, work tasters
  • To advise on job options and starting your own business and access to employers who are recruiting
  • To provide 1-2-1 Information, Advice and Guidance
  • To tailor individual support and mentoring
  • To assist with barriers to employment

College Links

We liaise with student support staff at Truro and Penwith College all year round to help our young people build relationships with staff well before the new academic year starts, so they feel familiar with the college and confident about what their course involves.

As a result, we have seen a higher number of residents complete their chosen courses with improved attendance and lower drop-out rates.

Every year we see young people from YMCA Cornwall going on to study higher education in their chosen subject, making the most of the opportunities available to them and overcoming the challenges that once held them back.
